Field Trip Performance - The Ensemble Theatre

“And in This Corner: Cassius Clay” is a phenomenal story that explores real-life accounts of a boy who faced the challenge of a neighborhood incident with strength and courage. It would ignite a career, life and a following for generations to come. Based on the early life of Muhammad Ali, known then as Cassius Clay in Jim Crow Louisville, this play tells the story of a young man who, despite segregation and racism, believes his potential is unlimited.

Encouraged by his first boxing coach, a white police officer, young Cassius realizes things will never change if he only focuses on personal success — he must also use his gifts to work for the good of his community. Directed by Steven J. Scott, The Ensemble Theatre brings this dramatization of the young life from a celebrated African American whose voice and views changed the national landscape forever.
